‘I think they will be even more successful in the future,’ said the CAF president.

Confederation of African Football President Patrice Motsepe says he is happy Kaizer Chiefs are set to play in next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

Chiefs have reached the final of the Nedbank Cup final, and even if they lose to Orlando Pirates, it would take a complicated set of permutations for them fail to play in the 2025/26 edition of the Confederation Cup.

Motsepe – ‘I am proud’

“South African football requires a successful Chiefs and and I am proud of the work the Motaung family are doing,” said Motsepe, at the launch of the renewal of a partnership between CAF and Africa Global Logistics.

“Dr Kaizer Motaung is in a class of his own. I have said in the past that the days of success for Kaizer Chiefs are coming and … I think they will be even more successful in the future’.

The CAF president was more reticent on whether he wants Mamelodi Sundowns (his former club) to face Orlando Pirates in the CAF Champions League final. Both teams will be in Cairo on Friday for the second leg of their semifinals.

‘So good to see’

Both first legs ended in goalless draws.

“I am proud of all the teams from all over the continent,” he said.

“It is so good to see two South African teams participating in the CAF (Champions League) semifinals … sustainable progress doesn’t happen overnight. It needs consistent investment and hard work. I wish the best Al Ahly, Pyramids, Pirates, who are my father’s club, and Stellenbosh (Stellies are playing in the Caf Confederation Cup semifinals). What’s the other team? And Sundowns!”
