Mpho Sebeng’s family demands answers a year after the actor’s passing

Mpho Sebeng’s grieving family is still searching for answers more than a year after the actor’s tragic passing.

The talented performer lost his life in the early hours of Sunday, 5 May 2024, in a car accident in Potchefstroom.

Despite the time that has passed, his parents, Nomsa and Joseph Sebeng, say they have yet to receive clarity on the circumstances surrounding their son’s death.

Frustrated and heartbroken, the family has now approached the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), seeking intervention after months of what they describe as silence and delay from law enforcement.

According to Kaya News, the Sebengs claim the police failed to respond to the scene promptly and only handed over an investigation report nearly a year after the crash.

Their legal representative, Alude Xuba, stated, “We got the investigation report almost a year later, and that accident report was sort of constructed because we demanded it. Firstly, it’s apparent no investigation happened. Secondly, we want an investigation report. Thirdly, we want to know the outcomes of the investigation, and nothing has been forthcoming.”

Mpho was laid to rest on 11 May 2024 at the Rhema Bible Church in Randburg, but for those closest to him, the mourning continues, compounded by unanswered questions and a lack of closure.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that police have opened a case of culpable homicide, though updates on the investigation remain scarce.
