Enyimba FC of Aba, eight time champions of Nigeria top flight will today kick off the opening match of the Super-6 play offs against Remo Stars of Ikenne in Ogun State at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos today.

Before the draw ceremony, the league organisers, Interim Management Committee (IMC) unveiled a new logo for the first tier of the Nigeria club football.

It marked a total break with the previous NPFL under the now sacked League Management Company (LMC).

The Super Six Playoff scheduled to begin today will end on June 11 with the winner going home with a N100million pay cheque.

In the second game of the opening day, Sunshine Stars of Akure will take on defending champions, Rivers United of Port Harcourt.

Inform-unbeaten Bendel Insurance are to stake their invincibility against Lobi Stars in the last game of the day in what promises to be a bruising battle.

However, build up to the play offs, IMC Chairman, Gbenga Elegbeleye, had commended GTI for the company’s commitment in laying a strong foundation and transparent football ecosystem in the country using The Nigeria Football Fund (TNFF) as the vehicle in achieving this laudable dream.

He revealed that the NPL Championship Playoffs will see the best of Nigerian league football on display as the six teams will trade tackles in a round-robin format.

Complimenting Elegbeleye’s statement, the GMD of GTI Group, Abubakar Lawal, affirmed that the company was employing every best international practice to give Nigerian football a desirable breakthrough.

“GTI is committing lots of material and financial resources towards ensuring that the NPL enjoys robust financial support in order to become self-sustaining,” he said.
