The Oyo State Government has announced the appointment of a traditional leader HRH Oba Olatunde Oginni JP as the chairman of the Badminton Association of Nigeria via a letter issued by the State Sports Council and signed by its General Manager Gboyega Makinde.

The newly appointed chairman in his acceptance speech has reiterated its commitment to take the sport to greater heights, saying the game of badminton has greatly suffered a setback especially in the Southwest geo-political zone of the country, declaring his readiness to give the sport a new lease of life.

The Ibadan based business mogul thanked the Oyo Government for having a trust in him hence appointing him to revive the moribund sports, assuring the people of Oyo State of a complete turnaround by immediately embarking on a catch them young drive to inject fresh bloods into the game.

“I’m quite happy that the Oyo State Ministry of Youths and Sports is reviving the sports association, a development that is a right step in the right direction, but my own injection would be a special focus on the grassroots by embarking on a ‘catch them young’ program.

“I will also cultivate my influential friends to come and invest in the game of badminton by helping us to sponsor competitions for the athletes that often trained without getting enough competition to test their level of improvements”, said Oba Oginni who is also a Chieftain of the badminton section of Ibadan Tennis Club.
