The Ikeja Golf Club Lagos, is arguably one of Nigeria’s busiest clubs in the hosting of events as the much awaited 2021 Ladies Club Championship started counting since October 25.

The above position no doubt, has inspired the excitement associated with the 2021 edition of the Ladies Championship which as at midweek has over 100 golfers who have registered for the Championship.

The Championship which has its main event between October 29 and 30 however, commenced activities on Monday October 25 with Caddies, Club Professionals and Admin Staff event; October 26 and 27, had the men taking their turn as Thursday October 28 was arrival of golfers from across the country and cocktail.

Busola Ladipo, the Lady Captain of the Club however, gave some perspective on the rise in the participation figure in an earlier interview with the press: “This year’s Ladies Club Championship has an impressive record figure in Ikeja Golf Club history.”

She revealed, “In the previous years, the figure of participating golfers usually stand at 60-70; but I’m proud to say under my tenure and for the first time, we are having over 80 golfers who have registered ahead of the Championship; but we are expecting over 150 to register before the tournament proper which is Friday and Saturday – October 29-30.”

This development the Lady Captain said was a confirmation of her efforts at turning around the Ladies Section of Ikeja Golf Club the which hitherto was beginning to lose the desired glamour associated with Ladies Section of clubs.

“Before now, lady members at the Ikeja Golf Club were becoming reluctant to play golf, but today as the Captain, I have been able to encourage them to improve their game and the situation is now very impressive,” the captain enthused.

The Captain added, “The men have been my biggest surprise in this Championship; they have been very supportive morally and financially – they have been by me to ensure the success of the event.”

Concluding, she assured that the participants would be given the best treatment while the Championship lasts as all logistics have been put in place to ensure a hitch-free event.
