The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Oyo State chapter, has expressed shocked over the sudden death of the association’s National President, Ahmed Aigbona.
In a condolence message signed by its chairman, Niyi Alebiosu and Secretary, Adewale Tijani, Oyo SWAN expressed sorrow over Aigbona’ death, whose leadership was recognised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
It stressed that his death had created a vacuum in the struggle to rescue the umbrella body of sports journalists in Nigeria from the stranglehold of a power drunk whose despotic leadership has created divisions and rancour among sports writers in the country.
“The shocking death of Aigbona came when his activism was needed most to restore our association to the path of glory”, Oyo SWAN lamented.
While joining National SWAN, National NUJ, Edo NUJ, Edo SWAN and other stakeholders in mourning the death of the vibrant journalist, SWAN in Oyo State prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased.
Oyo SWAN also commiserated with Aigbona’s immediate family and prayed that Allah would give them the fortitude to bear the loss.
It further prayed that Allah would grant the late journalist al jannat firdaos
