Oyome Shines In Ibadan Ladies Open

Evelyn Oyome, playing handicap six gave a good account of herself during the 18th edition of the Ibadan Golf Club (IGC) Ladies Open held over the weekend by emerging overall winner with 153 gross.

Oyome also claimed the special prizes in nearest to the pin and longest drive in holes 6 and 5 respectively to justify her new form was not a fluke on the day.

Sulaiman Ahmed of IGC playing handicap 6 also won in the men’s category with 76 gross, while Mary Onyejose of Tiger Golf Club won the Net Ladies with 180 gross over 148 net and Yusuf .A playing handicap 11 emerged winner in the Net Men category with 82 gross over 71 net.

The tournament tagged: “Swing Sensation” which was played over three days with over 150 participants drawn from IBB Golf Club, Port Harcourt Golf club and other notable golf clubs in Nigeria ended on Sunday February 27 in Ibadan.

The Lady Captain IGC, Mary Okunola who was the chief host of the event expressed her joy for the huge success recorded while making a speech during the closing ceremony and prizes presentation thanking the numerous organizations and individuals that supported the ladies’ section for successful tournament.

“I want to use this opportunity to show my sincere gratitude to all and sundry that have supported the ladies section of this great club for the past two years that I have been in the saddle of leading the lady section, because my tenure will be rounding up in a short-while.

“During my tenure, I initiated an enlightenment drive to draw more women into the game of golf and also organized a catch them young golf clinics program for schools’ pupils. I will try in my personal capacity to sustain these good initiatives and programmes even when I leave office as Lady Captain”, Okunola noted.
