The Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) of Nigeria has said that it would be willing to synergise with Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) in a bid to reposition the game in the country.
Jude Bolaji, Secretary of the PGA of Nigeria made the statement while commenting on the victory of Otumba Olusegun Runsewe, the new President of the NGF.
Otumba Runsewe won the Federation elections which held in Abuja on Thursday September 30, 2021 and the PGA of Nigeria scribe said that it was a good development to have him in the helm of affairs.
According to him, “Otumba Runsewe is well known name in golf development; he is humble and ready to serve from my interactions with him even before the election.
“He’s got the capacity and facilities at his disposal to move the game forward and interestingly, the PGA of Nigeria would be willing to synergise with the NGF; this is very key in repositioning the game of golf in Nigeria.”
“The NGF has the responsibility to supervise and to drive the game from the grassroots, while the PGA of Nigeria takes care, especially the professional aspects of the game; this implies that both bodies must work together to effectively develop the game,” he added.
Recalled Runsewe is the Director-General of the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC), a position he assumed in 2017.
Concluding however, the Secretary noted that the new NGF President has been through the thick and thin of golf admistration and politics in the past and should bring his experience to bear and endeavour to carry everybody along.
“Otumba Runsewe as I know, was once in the board of the NGF and he contributed his quota meaningfully; he’s expected to bring his experience to bear this time around and he should be able to carry everybody along to make his job easy,” the Secretary emphasised.
