South African travellers wanting to travel to European or Schengen countries will have to first apply for a Schengen Visa.

This application can be a lengthy one and requires several documents to be filled in and supplied, along with a fee that needs to be paid.

If you’re wondering how much Schengen Visa application fees are for South Africans, here’s what you need to know before you set out applying…

How much for a Schengen Visa?

According to Schengenvisa.info, all visitors wishing to visit a Schengen area in Europe will need to pay a non-refundable administration fee when applying for their Schengen visa, in order for their visa application to be processed.

This new fee, as of last year, has increased for South African citizens from €80 to €90 (equivalent to around R1 732.24) per adult.

Children between the ages of six and 12 pay a reduced fee of €45 (about R866.12) per child. Children under the age of six are 100% exempt from these application fee.

South African citizens will have to pay the fee in South African rands when submitting the Schengen visa application at the embassy/consulate of the Schengen country for which they’re applying to visit within South Africa.

They will have to pay the above fees whenever they apply for a short-term tourist visa to any of the following 29 European/Schengen countries:

  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Bulgaria
  • Croatia
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Hungary
  • Iceland
  • Italy
  • Latvia
  • Liechtenstein
  • Lithuania
  • Luxembourg
  • Malta
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Romania
  • Slovakia
  • Slovenia
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland

It’s also worth noting that these visa fee are non-refundable, whether you receive approval of the visa or not.
