There is no doubt players of the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) of Nigeria would be yearning for more actions since June 2021 HSDGCC Classic in Yenagoa Bayelsa State.
This is against the backdrop of the zeal with which the present executive of the association led by, Dr. Tony Philmoore, hit the ground running on assumption of office – three tournaments consecutively in Port Harcourt; Aba and Yenagoa between March and June 2021.
While the PGA of Nigeria executive is believed to be on its toes to meet the desire of the members, Israel Oyedokun, who turned professional recently is one of the players burning with the desire for more actions as espoused in a chat with SOKOnnect on Tuesday.
Oyedokun said, “We dont have tournaments now and one is beginning to look rusty; it doesn’t feel good training without a tournament one is looking forward to participate.*
However, the MicCom Golf Club, Ada Osun State Professional expressed confidence in the PGA of Nigeria executive to turn things around in no distant time.
Hear him, “I want to believe that PGA of Nigeria will do something that will benefit everyone very soon, because the present exco started on a good note; now we are talking about Gala Night coming up soon in Lagos; it will be great.”
Oyedokun maintained he would keep training very hard and always as a professional rather than waiting for tournament in order to maintain his fitness.
“However, I’ll keep preparing my self for PGAN next tournament and I must say I feel so excited to be part of PGA of Nigeria; the executive committee should not give up, but keep working hard to move the association forward,” he concluded.
Andrew Oche Odoh, Nigeria number one and most traveled professional in the country expressed similar view: “Lack of tournaments is making life boring here in Abuja; we need tournaments,” lamenting, “Covid-19 Delta Variant has also made traveling more difficult recently because of its restrictions.”
Kamalu Bako of Kano Club who is gradually becoming a force and his colleague, Kabiru Haruna, also expressed similar feelings: “Nothing is happening here in Kano for now; no tournament,no money; we can’t wait for another PGAN tournament to come.”
PGA of Nigeria Director, Dr.Philmoore, on assumption of office did promised to better the welfare of the PGAN members positively and has shown cause that the future of the association will be brighter.
He told SOKOnnect in an earlier Interview, “We will go on a fundraising drive for at least N250 million to fund a Nigerian Tour, a sustainable tour, that will attract the biggest players around the world to come to Nigeria and play golf and the PGAN members will be of being golf professional as it is in other sports as football.”
However,the preparations for the grand finale of the fundraising tagged “Gala Night” in Lagos it was revealed, has been ongoing smoothly as everyone is waiting for the date to come
