Situated at “Diep in die Berg” in a tucked away corner of the sprawling gardens of the function centre, Vulva Vie is a refreshing concept, unlike anything South Africa has ever seen.
Vulva Vie is starkly different from the clinical look and feel of beauty spas. The first thing you notice when you walk up to the spa is the bright, colourful pink umbrellas that shade a comfortable seating area where women sip on cosmopolitans.
Stepping into the spa, the first thing you see is a beautiful flowered wall in the shape of a vagina. Why a vagina spa?
Speaking to The Citizen, Monica van Vuuren, the founder of Vulva Vie said the concept for South Africa’s first intimate spa was born about five years ago.
She says the vision behind Vulva Vie is to give women a safe space where they can go to get educated and talk about intimate problems down there that are not medical and can’t be answered by your gynaecologist.
Van Vuuren says she wanted to create a platform where she could empower women about their intimate health and care from the teenage years all the way through to your eighties because women often ignore that part of their bodies.
She adds that a lot of research went into building Vulva Vie to find the best, least painful options for the treatments they offer.

Treatments available at Vulva Vie
The main service offered at Vulva Vie is the BTL technology and Van Vuuren says that all their services are build around this technology.
Their most popular service, the BTL EMSELLA is a new category of technology that provides non-invasive treatment for pelvic floor muscles in incontinence and intimate discomfort. You do 12 000 Kegel exercises in 30 minutes with this technology.
They also offer non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation packages.
However, aside from intimate treatments, you can also get other body treatments including skin tightening, lipolysis, facials, needling treatments and even breast therapy.
Van Vuuren says at Vulva Vie, their services are coupled with the best technology and workshops to work on the mental side of things. They also have exclusive distribution rights on various intimate products for intimate play.
“Many of our clients struggle with libido and we have procured many products that focus on improving the libido. Libido problems are usually hormonal or physical, but very often it can also be a mental block. This is why we found it important to do a holistic offering for women.”

Van Vuuren says Vulva Vie also offers a range of services for male clients, whose treatments are booked at times when the ladies aren’t getting pampered at the spa.
She says the BTL Emsella chair is especially very popular with the men as it tightens the pelvic floor and helps with muscles and fibers in the pelvic area. “There are so many benefits for men using the Emsella chair.”

Our verdict:
We highly recommend trying Vulva Vie out for your next intimate wax. The vibrant, friendly atmosphere put me at ease immediately and the special touches like watching your favourite show on Netflix while you are having your treatment done just added so much to the experience.
If you’re a nervous waxer, like me, the aromatherapy stress ball will really go a long way to help settle those nerves.
A vajacial also sounded like such an unnecessary extra, until I experienced it. It is a must when you have an intimate wax. The treatment cools everything down and soothes the irritated skin. I love the various options they have on offer as well – everything from a detoxifying and regenerating vajacial to deep cleansing and brightening, or my personal favourite, The Gold Member.
