PSL Suspends all Royal AM fixtures amid financial turmoil

he Premier Soccer League (PSL) has suspended all Royal AM fixtures, including their highly anticipated clash against Orlando Pirates, due to the club’s ongoing financial difficulties.

Royal AM’s financial struggles have escalated following their failure to provide the necessary guarantees to the PSL, ensuring compliance with league requirements.

The club is currently under curatorship by the South African Revenue Service (SARS) due to an alleged outstanding tax debt of R40 million.

Club owner Shauwn “MaMkhize” Mkhize has been at the center of a legal dispute with SARS, which resulted in the seizure of luxury vehicles and properties in an attempt to recover the debt.

The financial woes have also affected the club’s operations, with reports confirming that Royal AM failed to pay players’ salaries for December, leading to the cancellation of their match against Chippa United on January 9.

The PSL, in a statement, confirmed that they have not received any assurances from Royal AM management or the appointed curators regarding the club’s ability to honor upcoming fixtures.

As a result, their next match against Orlando Pirates and the Nedbank Cup round of 32 tie against Milford have been postponed until further notice.

The PSL Executive Committee is set to reconvene on Friday, January 24, to give the club an opportunity to present a solution to their ongoing crisis.
