Award winning Afrobeats/Afrorave artist Rema has done it again with his record breaking single, ‘Calm Down’ as he becomes the reigning afrobeats artist with the most views on YouTube for his song, ‘Calm Down’ as it currently sits over 357 Million Views. In an Interview with Alphonse Pierre from Pitchfork, Rema spoke on how the song came about, he shared “Calm Down is about the events that led me to finding love at the time. It started at a party where I saw a girl who stood out from other girls so I felt like shooting my shot. We spoke and danced… but her friends didn’t let me get any closer which killed the vibe, but afterwards when they weren’t there, we stayed in touch and hit it off.”
The single has since sparked interest on the internet prior to it’s release as many fell in love with the song and expressed this with dance moves as well as sing along videos on Tiktok and Instagram. Rema then followed up the single with a remix featuring USA Popstar, Selina Gomez. It went on to receiving a spot on the Billboard Top 100 charts at spot 91. The music video has received love from fans across the globe as you embark on a journey between Rema and a potential party. It currently sits on the top 8 music video in South Africa as the numbers best compliment this spot.
He reigns the sitting of the most views on a afrobeats single, putting Burna Boy on number 2 for his ‘On the low’ music video as it sits on 315 Million Views.
