Benjamin Dube performed with Spirit of Praise at Cape Town’s Grand West Arena on Sunday.

In a statement on Monday morning, Rev. Benjamin Dube announced his departure from the Spirit of Praise. This is just before the choir’s performance outside the country.

“As seasons change, so do assignments,” read the statement, which said Dube reached his decision after prayer, reflection and conversations.

“Rev. Dube believes that the time has come to fully focus on the next phase of his calling, which includes expanding his personal ministry, mentoring the next generation of gospel artists and pursuing projects aligned with the unique mandate God has placed on his life,” read the statement.

Spirit of Praise

Spirit of Praise is a collective of solo gospel artists who perform together in live recorded shows.

The first two volumes of Spirit of Praise were recorded in 2008 at the State Theatre, featuring artists like Keke, Andile B and Solly Mahlangu.

Dube has been involved in all but the first two live recording albums. His last involvement was in the 10th live recording of the Spirit of Praise at the SunBet Arena, released last September.

The Spirit of Praise is owned by music production and distribution company Spirit Music Group, which was founded in 1999. The owners of Spirit Music Group are Aubrey Peacock and Mathew Nkabinde.

Grateful

Dube said he was grateful for the time spent in the collective.

“This decision was not made lightly as Spirit of Praise has been an important part of Rev. Dube’s ministry journey over the years. Through this platform, countless lives have been touched,” read the statement.

On Sunday, Spirit of Praise performed at Cape Town’s Grand West Arena, where Dube also performed.

In March, Spirit of Praise confirmed that the choir would perform in Botswana and Birmingham, UK, in May.
