In a dramatic twist, the auction of Royal AM FC is proceeding, despite business mogul Shauwn ‘MaMkhize’ Mkhize’s legal efforts to block it.

The auction comes as a result of an outstanding R40 million debt owed to the South African Revenue Service (SARS), further adding to the club’s ongoing financial troubles.

Mkhize’s Legal Battle Against the Auction

Mkhize’s legal team, led by attorney Rudolf Mastenbroek, strongly opposed the auction, arguing that it was unjust and premature.

“The auction attempt is unfair to proceed without the court return day of the preservation having been anticipated or without the return day being heard, without my client having had an opportunity to explain why the preservation order should not have been made in the first place,” said Mastenbroek.

Despite these objections, the auction process has moved forward, attracting significant interest from potential buyers.

High Interest from Bidders

Royal AM FC’s auction has drawn attention from several high-profile bidders. Among them, an anonymous MK Party Member of Parliament and a Russian businessman have shown interest in acquiring the club.

The deadline for bid submissions was set for Friday, 14 March 2025, at 13:00, with a minimum entry requirement of R1 million.

The final sale and official announcement of the new owner are expected on 17 March 2025.

Royal AM’s Struggles with Financial Troubles

The club has faced severe financial difficulties in recent years.

In 2024, a liquidation order was issued against Royal AM FC, marking a significant blow to the club’s stability.

Adding to their troubles, the team also faced a FIFA transfer ban due to an unpaid debt of R15 million (excluding interest) owed to former player Samir Nurkovic.

What This Means for Royal AM’s Future

With the club now heading for new ownership, its future remains uncertain.

If a successful bidder is approved, Royal AM FC may see a fresh start under new management, potentially resolving its financial struggles. However, if legal battles continue, the sale process may face further delays.

As South African football fans await the final decision on 17 March, all eyes remain on whether Mkhize’s legal team will challenge the outcome or if a new era for Royal AM FC is about to begin.
