True or false? Sassa responds to news doing the rounds of ‘double pay’ for permanent social grant beneficiaries in June.
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has dismissed claims made in a report circulating on social media that its grant beneficiaries will receive double pay next month.
The agency disburses more than 19 million permanent grant payments every month in addition to the approximately 8 million Social Relief of Distress (SRD) grant beneficiaries.
Sassa denies ‘double pay’ in June:
In response to the rumours of double pay in June, Sassa confirmed that grant payments will not be doubled next month.
Its head of communications, Paseka Letsatsi, urged grant beneficiaries to disregard such misinformation and refrain from sharing unverified content.
“This information is false and did not originate from Sassa,” said Letsatsi.
We urge beneficiaries to rely only on official Sassa platforms and reputable news sources for updates.
Letsatsi cautioned recipients against spreading fake news.
“Before sharing any content related to social grants, individuals must verify its authenticity. False information can cause unnecessary anxiety and confusion among our beneficiaries.”
Sassa payment dates for June 2025
- Older Persons Grant: Tuesday, 3 June
- Disability Grant: Wednesday, 4 June
- Children’s grants: Thursday, 5 June
Increased Sassa grant amounts
In his postponed Budget Speech in March, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced National Treasury’s allocation of R284.7 billion for permanent social grants in 2025/26.
The first increase of 2025 took effect in April:
- Old Age (60-74 years) and Disability grants by R130 to R2,315;
- Old Age (75+ years) Grant by R135 to R2,335;
- War Veterans Grant by R130 to R2,315;
- Care Dependency Grant by R130 to R2,315
- Child Support Grant by R30 to R560; and
- Foster Care Grant by R70 to R1,250.

Grant payment options
Permanent Sassa grant beneficiaries have the option of having their grants paid directly into their bank account. This is a convenient payment method, as you can access your money at any time after Sassa makes the payment.
Sassa grants are paid to selected stores around the country. Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Boxer stores, Usave stores, OK and Checkers all distribute social grants.
There are also mobile cash pay points where you can collect your money. However, this is not a flexible payment option, and you may only collect your grant payment for a few hours every month.
