The Academic Staff Union Of Universities (ASUU) Ambrose Alli University (AAU) Ekpoma chapter has called the bluff of Governor Godwin Obaseki’s directive over the suspension of all unions activities in the state-owned University and other tertiary institutions.

The State Executive Council had on Wednesday decided to end the unending ASSU strike by placing a ban on all unions activities in the State University other tertiary institutions.

As at Thursday security operatives were said to have barricaded the Ambrose Alli Hall, to prevent any form of meeting by the unions from holding.

Reporters in Ekpoma however came across a terse notice meeting signed by (SSANU) on behalf of the chairman.

It reads:

“Good morning comrade.
I am directed to request all JAC members to go to Barrack Road to hold today’s Congress meeting.

This is because policemen have been used to barricade Ambrose Alli Hall, in order to prevent JAC from holding meeting there.

Every inconveniences is highly regretted.
Thank you.
Secretary (SSANU)
for: Chairman (JAC)

The ASUU Meeting eventually held.

ASUU STRIKE: OUR RESOLUTIONS HAVE NOT CHANGED

Comrades, I thank you for your solidarity, resilience and steadfastness in sustaining the ongoing national strike in the face of provocation, oppression and draconian measures to break our resolve. Yes, there are fiats and directives banning Union activities and asking us to resume work to break the ongoing strike and wish away our rights to just and fair treatment as workers. These should be ignored.

For the avoidance of doubt, we are still on strike and the Union’s resolutions and directives in this regard have not changed. Therefore, all members of the Union should sustain withdrawal of their statutory duties and STAY AWAY from the University’s campus, unless otherwise directed by the Union. Deans, HODs, Directors, etc. who are members of the Union are also bound by the resolutions and directives of the Union.

We should not allow ourselves to be used and enslaved. ASUU National has been briefed and is aware of the situation in our University. We have strong support from the national body.

The Union has already taken some legal steps to deal with the present situation. If you are in doubt of what to do, please contact the Chairperson of the Union. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

The struggle continues! Victory is certain!!

Signed
Dr. Cyril Oziegbe Onogbosele
Chairperson, ASUU, AAU, Ekpoma.
