The start of AKA’s journey in the music space is one of the most fascinating stories till today as he started out in group known as Entity with his friends Vice Versa and Greyhound in 2002. They went on to creating amazing music to a point where they received their first award nomination at the KORA Awards for Best African Hip-Hop. They separated in 2006 and that is when AKA went over to establish The IV League with Kamza and Buks. They became a force and produced hits for the likes of Khuli Chana, Pro Kid and JR.

Three years later, AKA released his first three official singles as a solo act, ‘In My Walk’, ‘Do It’ and ‘Mistakes’. This then lead to the release of his lead single ‘I Want it all’ from his debut album Alter Ego which dropped in 2011. AKA did not hold back in his rise as he went on to grace the country with hits upon hits from ‘Victory Lap’ to ‘Run Jozi’ and much more.

The Forbes family gifted the country with a legend as he was not only able to put smiles on the faces of many through his art but he also was able to create opportunities for many creatives out there. He has managed to break records in the music industry showing many other artists from South Africa that it is possible.

AKA was not only a man whose energy you would feel when he was in the room but he brought light and joy and, with this, allowed others to have joyous memories when they encounter him. He loved and celebrated his fans as he would call them The Megacy.

In the waiting for his highly anticipated album, Mass Country AKA has graced us with some hits off the project such as his platinum-selling ‘Lemons (Lemonade)’ with Nasty C, ‘Prada’ with Khuli Chana and ‘Paradise’ with Musa Keys and Ghanaian star, Gyakie.

News broke on social media on Friday night that the multi-award winning rapper had been shot and killed in Durban at Florida Road alongside another individual. It was confirmed by a news report on News24 as they stated that local police officials spoke out without mentioning any names as they were currently investigating the situation.

To AKA’s family, we thank you for blessing us with a son such as AKA as he went on to become a superstar that did not only create anthems that many still sing today but then also a man that showed love and kindness to many individuals out there. He has also formed a name and brand that shall never be forgotten. We would like to send out our condolences to his family, friends and fans.

To AKA, thank you so much for the love you have shown and for constantly chasing your dreams as it is through that decision that you have inspired many of us. Thank you for always believing in us as the journey was only getting bigger and better. Thank you for gracing us with your presence. You will be dearly missed, brother.

Rest in paradise.
