A yellow level 2 warning has been issued for severe thunderstorms with heavy downpours, large hail and damaging winds over the central and eastern parts of North West, north-eastern parts of Free State, Gauteng, Mpumalanga highveld as well as the southern escarpment and south-western parts of Limpopo, on Friday.
According to the South African Weather Service (SAWS), residents in these areas should watch out for localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas, and bridges, as well as localised damages to property.
Friday’s weather forecast
Gauteng: Cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers. The expected UVB sunburn index: Extreme.
Mpumalanga: Morning fog patches on the eastern Highveld and along the escarpment areas, otherwise cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers.
Limpopo: Morning fog patches along the escarpment areas, otherwise cloudy to partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the south.

North West: Cloudy in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the north-east.
Free State: Cloudy with morning fog patches in the east, otherwise partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers, except in the south.
Northern Cape: Fine in the central parts, otherwise partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers in the north-east. The wind along the coast will be Strong southerly.

Western Cape: Cloudy along the south coast at first, otherwise fine and cool to warm. The wind along the coast will be light to moderate south-easterly, but south-westerly along the south coast. The expected UVB sunburn index: Very High.
Western half of the Eastern Cape: Partly cloudy and cool, fine in places in the north. The wind along the coast will be moderate south-westerly.
Eastern half of the Eastern Cape: Partly cloudy and cool, but cloudy with fog patches in places south of escarpment in the morning and evening. The wind along the coast will be moderate south-westerly, becoming light southerly.

KwaZulu-Natal: Cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the north-west. The wind along the coast will be moderate southerly to south-westerly at first, otherwise north-easterly. The expected UVB sunburn index: Low.
