The parents of the young girl are being sought for questioning.
A toddler, estimated to be around six months old, was found abandoned on a pathway in Coniston, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) spokesperson Prem Balram said the girl’s parents are being sought for questioning.
“The minor is dressed in a peach top, black pants and yellow and pink socks,” he said.
Abandoned toddler found
The toddler was found by a man, who returned to his home and informed his neighbours about the young girl.
“Residents assisted in feeding the child and contacted the RUSA operations centre for assistance,” said Balram.
“The baby has been examined by paramedics and found to be healthy and free of injuries.”

Balram asked anyone who can identify the child or her parents to contact RUSA.
Prank leads to stabbing
Meanwhile, also on Saturday afternoon, RUSA officers responded to a scene where a man was assaulted by his colleague after playing a prank on him.
The angry colleague attacked the man with a steel wire brush and stabbed him several times with a scraper.
“RUSA received the call requesting assistance to break up a fight. Reaction officers arrived on scene at a truck yard in Ottawa, KZN, to find man bleeding from head wounds. Staff on the premises administered first aid,” said Balram.
“It was established that the injured man had thrown a bottle at his work colleague to scare him. This angered the man who stabbed and assaulted the prankster.”
