Hawks arrest suspect for making threats against President Cyril Ramaphosa


A 28-year-old suspect has been arrested in Gauteng for making threats against President Cyril Ramaphosa. The suspect was arrested and led away handcuffed in Germiston on Friday by the Hawks’ Crime Against The State (CATS) unit, which is part of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation based in Gauteng.
Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Thandi Mbambo said the arrest follows a case reported earlier this month.

Malatsi summoned to Parliament to explain Starlink policy directive


Communications and Digital Technologies Minister Solly Malatsi has been summoned to a briefing by Communications portfolio committee chairperson Khusela Diko on the recently published policy directive that could allow the Starlink satellite internet service to operate in the country.
In a statement posted on X, Diko said the move by Malatsi to gazette the policy directive appear to be in “contravention of the Electronic Communications Act and in favour of low earth orbit satellite provider SpaceX”.

Issues raised by Trump will be ‘duly addressed properly’ Ramaphosa says


President Cyril Ramaphosa said the issues raised by his US counterpart, Donald Trump, at the Oval Office in Washington will be addressed in due course.
This comes after Trump, who proved to be a political rottweiler for Afrikaners and white farmers, shifted the focus from what began as a cordial discussion with Ramaphosa but veered sharply off course to farm attacks in South Africa.

More than R20 million of fake LV goods and others seized in Joburg


The South African Police Service (Saps) in Gauteng has seized counterfeit goods worth more than R20 million during a multidisciplinary takedown operation in Bruma, east of Johannesburg.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Amanda van Wyk said they had arrested 35 individuals for the goods. One suspect was arrested for contravening the Counterfeit Goods Act while 34 foreign nationals were arrested for contravening the Immigration Act.

KZN police searching for gunmen linked to murders of four people


KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) police are searching for two criminals linked to the murders of four people in the province. The incident happened at a house in Dundee on Friday evening.
It is believed the two gunmen opened fire on two of the victims who were outside their home in the Muzomusha area.
