Canadian rapper Tory Lanez has been rushed to the hospital after a violent attack inside a California prison, where he was stabbed 14 times by another inmate.
According to prison officials, the 32-year-old hip-hop artist—whose real name is Daystar Peterson—was assaulted early Monday morning within a housing unit at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, located roughly 75 miles (120 km) north of Los Angeles.
Tory Lanez suffered multiple stab wounds to his back, torso, head, and face, leading to the collapse of both lungs, as confirmed in a post on his official Instagram account. The post stated he was initially placed on a breathing apparatus but is now breathing independently. Despite the severe injuries, Lanez is reportedly in stable condition, speaking normally, and remains in good spirits, expressing gratitude for his survival.
The attack occurred at approximately 7:20 a.m. local time (15:20 GMT), said Pedro Calderón Michel, spokesperson for the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. Prison staff administered emergency medical care before Lanez was transported to a nearby medical facility for further treatment. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, although the motive behind the assault has not been disclosed.
Tory Lanez 10 Year Sentence
Lanez is currently serving a 10-year sentence following his 2023 conviction on three felony gun charges, including assault with a semi-automatic firearm. In 2020, he was found guilty of shooting fellow rapper Megan Thee Stallion, whose legal name is Megan Pete, after an argument as they left a Hollywood party hosted by Kylie Jenner.
During the trial, Megan testified that Lanez shot at her feet after a heated dispute over their past relationship and music careers, telling her to “dance” as he fired. She later underwent surgery to remove bullet fragments from her foot. Throughout the trial and sentencing, Lanez maintained his innocence and declined to issue an apology.
The high-profile case split the hip-hop community, with celebrities such as 50 Cent and Iggy Azalea publicly weighing in and some even writing letters to the court in support of Lanez, requesting leniency.
Prior to his conviction, Tory Lanez had enjoyed considerable commercial success, earning seven US Top 10 albums in as many years. He has also hinted at an upcoming project titled Peterson, which he reportedly continues to work on from behind bars.
