Solar eclipse explainedThe celestial event has already begun. You can watch it here:Spiritual connotations

A total solar eclipse is currently in progress but the astronomical event is only visible in some parts of the world, namely Australia and South East Asia.

The  hybrid solar eclipse is only visible in Australia, Timor-Leste and Indonesia (West Papua and Papua). At the same time, a partial solar eclipse will be visible in southeast Asia, East Indies, Australia, Philippines and New Zealand.

Solar eclipse explained

A Solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the sun and Earth. In other words: The moon is perfectly aligned with the sun and earth, blocking the suns rays as it passes through.

Australian astrophysicist, Dr Brad Tucker told The Guardian that while the moon is not perfectly still and does ‘bob up and down,’ at the time of alignment, the sun will be fully obscured by the moon.

The celestial event has already begun. You can watch it here:

The moon will only obscure the suns rays for about a minute and 15 seconds, while the entire duration is expected to last 199 minutes.

This is the first solar eclipse of the year is said to be a special one because its the first hybrid eclipse in a decade.

A hybrid eclipse is a combination of a total eclipse (where the sun is completely covered) and annular eclipse (where sun is partially covered, leaving a ‘ring of fire’ visible.)

Different parts of the globe will experience total and annular eclipses based on their location.

According WION, hybrid solar eclipses are considered rare because they only occur a few times every 100 years. The last hybrid solar eclipse took place in November 2013, and the next one is due to occur in November 2031.

The one after that is due only in March 2164.

Spiritual connotations

Due to its ‘rare’ occurrences, the astronomical event is believed have spiritual implications, particularly associated with new beginnings, or will accelerate endings and produce dramatic changes. These changes are not only associated with the individual, but the changes can also observed in a global contact i.e. changes in government policy or political changes.

Astrological pundits believe the event impacts zodiac signs differently. Some signs might find the changes exciting and positive while others can feel anxious and overwhelmed.

Spiritual seekers are advised to introspect and meditate during this time. But it may also be beneficial for manifesting ones desires.
