The suspects were wanted for a spate of CIT robberies in KZN.
Two suspected cash-in-transit (CIT) robbers have been killed in a shootout with police in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN).
The gun battle took place at Wasbank, near Ladysmith, on Thursday afternoon.
Shootout
Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said officers received information about the suspects wanted for a spate of CIT robberies.
“Police were following intelligence about the whereabouts of the suspects who were wanted for at least six cash-in-transit robbery incidents which happened in KwaDukuza, Verulam, Nyoni, Greytown, Phoenix and Langslaagte between June 2022 and March 2025.
“Police identified the house in which the suspects were hiding, and when they arrived and introduced themselves, the suspects fired shots towards police officers, and a shootout ensued. The two suspects were shot and fatally during the shootout,” Netshiunda said.

“Two firearms were found in possession of the suspects. No police officer was injured during the shootout”.
Wanted CIT suspects
Last week, two of South Africa’s most wanted CIT and murder suspects were shot dead during a shootout with police in Boksburg, Gauteng.
Police spokesperson Colonel Mavela Masondo said firearms, including an AK-47 rifle, were recovered.
“Fortunately, no members of the Saps were harmed during the incident. The suspects are linked to cases in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) provinces”.
Operation
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant-General Tommy Mthombeni said the operation involved various police units, security companies, and counterintelligence forces.
“Since the start of the year, 76 such incidents have been recorded nationwide, with 18 security guards tragically killed since January 2024”.
Mthombeni said operations had increasingly required advanced surveillance and intelligence-sharing to track potential suspects.
He added that to counteract the surge, Gauteng has been divided into north and south working teams to bolster efforts, enhance police visibility.
