Amapiano has been the hottest genre in South Africa and has changed the sound of music on the continent and beyond. The forthcoming Amapiano Africa Summit sounds like it will bring the much-needed unpacking of the genre.

Amapiano Africa Summit is set to take place fittingly on Youth Month, on Friday, June 23rd and Saturday, June 24th at Zone 6 Venue, Soweto.

Curated and conceptualised by promoter, event organiser and music curator Thulani “Thulani Way” Maduse, under the ‘With Or Without You’ company and its culturally influential movement, the 2-day summit’s aim is to infiltrate and educate creatives.

Centred around theme ‘Revolutionisation Of Amapiano’, the workshops promise to focus on translating the relevance and value of music and art. As a contributing factor to South African enrichment and youth empowerment, discussions, and research around the crucial role that Amapiano plays will be at the centre of the summit’s message.

Music will be further studied, not only placing a spotlight on it but the artists and their craft as well. The aim is to equip artists with the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure that they benefit from their passion and ideas.

According to a press release, motivation behind the summit lies in assisting mostly up and coming artists and their wellbeing, especially from townships. Many aspects of the industry will also be covered, such as Brand Management, PR, and Legal Rights.

Unifying African creatives, promoting Amapiano on a larger scale and echoing the role that music plays in socio-economic development is also at the crux of the summit, according to the press release.

“We’re proud to be bringing a unique and engaging summit that speaks to South African artists that would like to broaden their music and entertainment industry knowledge, in order to enrich their careers. We’re also bringing various stakeholders from the private and public sectors to further educate the artists and creatives that will be in attendance. The spirit of networking is also imperative,” expresses Thulani Maduse.

The summit will be hosted from 9AM until 4PM on each day, with a DJ line-up that will serve as entertainment following the workshops.

Tickets are available for purchase on Webtickets at Pick n Pay stores nationwide at R100 for each day.
