The city intends to complete the upgrade within the specified period and will closely monitor and update residents on developments.
The City of Tshwane reminded its residents of the temporary shutdown of the Bronkhorstspruit Water Treatment Plant scheduled on Monday, 5 May.
The shutdown is set to last until 16 May 2025. Tshwane said in its first announcement on 29 April that this is in order to facilitate the installation of new panels for high lift.
Affected areas
The following are the areas that will be affected in region 7:
- Bronkhorstspruit Town
- Ekandustria
- Ekangala
- Rethabiseng
- Riamarpark
- Zithobeni
- Thembisile Hani Local Municipality (cross-border water supply)
According to the city, roaming water tankers will be arranged for the affected areas

Crucial panels
The city said the panels control and monitor the operation of pumps that lift treated water to a higher elevation.
This is typically for distribution to water towers or directly into the water reticulation system.
“These panels are crucial for ensuring efficient and reliable operation of the high-lift pumps, which are essential for delivering water to the end users.
“This essential upgrade is aimed at enhancing the performance of the said high lift pumps,” Tshwane said.
The city intends to complete the upgrade within the specified period and will closely monitor developments and update residents.

Water outages in Joburg
In the same province, Johannesburg Water has announced a planned water outage on Tuesday, 6 May, affecting the Fleurhof suburb.
The interruption is set to last from 8am on Tuesday until 4pm. Joburg Water said it is necessary due to the installation of a new pipe in the existing infrastructure.
Residents in the area will experience low pressure and no water supply during the maintenance period.
Johannesburg Water stated that the repair work will enhance service delivery.
In the official communication, Johannesburg Water acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the outage and assured residents that measures were in place to mitigate the impact of the outage.
“Further details regarding alternative water supply will be provided,” the utility mentioned.
