The South African Weather Service (Saws) has released its latest weather forecast for Wednesday, 16 April 2025.
The weather service has issued severe weather alerts for KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape, with disruptive rain and flood risks in multiple areas. Here’s what you need to know.
Weather warnings, Wednesday, 16 April
Impact-based warnings
The weather service has issued a yellow level four warning for disruptive rainfall resulting in flooding of roads and settlements (formal and informal), and major disruption of traffic flow due to major roads being flooded or closed is expected over most parts of KwaZulu-Natal except in the northeast.
A yellow level two warning was also issued for disruptive rain resulting in heavy downpours, which will lead to flooding of susceptible areas, roads and bridges; localised damage to properties; and temporal disruptions of municipal services is expected along the Wild Coast in the Eastern Cape.

Provincial weather forecast
Here’s what to expect in your province on Wednesday, 16 April:
Gauteng:
Residents of Gauteng can expect partly cloudy and cool weather with scattered showers and thundershowers.
The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “high”.
Residents should take the necessary precautions against prolonged sun exposure.
Mpumalanga:
Mpumalanga residents can expect morning fog in places; otherwise, conditions will be partly cloudy and cool to warm with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated along the escarpment and in the Lowveld.
Limpopo:
The day will start with morning fog in places; otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the south-west.
North West:
Morning fog patches await North West residents in places in the west; otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and cool to warm, with isolated showers and thundershowers, scattered in the east.
Free State:
Residents of the Free State will experience morning fog patches in places; otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered over the eastern parts.
Northern Cape:
The day will start with morning fog patches in the east; otherwise, it will be fine and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme northeastern parts.
Western Cape:
Western Cape residents can expect morning fog in places over the southern parts; otherwise, the conditions will be partly cloudy and cool to warm but fine in the western parts. It will clear over the Central Karoo in the evening.
Eastern Cape (western half):
It will be cloudy along the coast with isolated showers and rain in the morning; otherwise, it will be partly cloudy and cool.
Eastern Cape (eastern half):
The day will be cloudy and cool with isolated to scattered showers and rain, but widespread along the Wild Coast.
KwaZulu-Natal:
Residents of KwaZulu-Natal can look forward to morning fog in places; otherwise, it will be cloudy and cold to cool with widespread showers and thundershowers but scattered in the north-eastern parts where it will be warm.
