The South African Weather Service (Saws) has released its latest weather forecast for Thursday, 17 April 2025.
Saws hasn’t issued any severe weather alerts, but you can expect mostly partly cloudy conditions, with thundershowers or isolated showers in parts of Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, North West, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu Nata. Meanwhile, high fire danger warnings have been issued for parts of the Northern and Western Capes. Here’s what you need to know.

Fire danger warnings
Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the Richtersveld Local Municipality in the Northern Cape and over the Cederberg and Bergrivier Local Municipalities in the Western Cape.

Here’s what to expect in your province on Thursday, 17 April:
Gauteng:
Residents of Gauteng can expect partly cloudy and cool weather conditions with isolated showers and thundershowers.
The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “high”.
Residents should take the necessary precautions against prolonged sun exposure.
Mpumalanga:
Mpumalanga residents will wake up to morning fog in places over the Highveld, otherwise it will be cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers.
Limpopo:
The day will start off with morning fog in places in the north and central parts, otherwise it will be cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers.
North West:
Partly cloudy and cool to warm weather awaits North West residents, with isolated showers and thundershowers in the east. It will be fine in the west.
Free State:
Residents of the Free State will experience fine and cool conditions, but partly cloudy in the east where morning fog is expected.
Northern Cape:
The day will start with morning fog patches in the extreme south-east, otherwise it will be fine and cool to warm but hot in places in the west.
Western Cape:
Western Cape residents can expect morning fog over the central parts, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and cool to warm, becoming fine in the afternoon. It will be hot over the Matzikama and Bergrivier Municipalities.

Eastern Cape (western half):
Cloudy conditions await Eastern Cape residents in the morning, otherwise it will be cloudy and cool.
Eastern Cape (eastern half):
The day will be cloudy and cool with isolated showers and rain along the coast, but it will be partly cloudy in the north.
KwaZulu-Natal:
Residents of KwaZulu-Natal can expect morning fog over the western interior, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and cool with isolated showers and rain in the east. It will be cloudy in the west.
