Find out what the latest weather forecast from the SA Weather Service means for your region.

The South African Weather Service (Saws) has released its latest weather forecast for Wednesday, 9 April 2025.

Severe thunderstorms are expected in parts of North West, Gauteng, Free State, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and KwaZulu-Natal. Hot and uncomfortable conditions are also expected in KwaZulu-Natal. Here’s what you need to know.

Weather warnings, Wednesday, 9 April

Impact-based warnings

The weather service has issued a yellow level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms over North West, Gauteng, northern Free State, Mpumalanga Highveld, extreme southern parts of Limpopo as well as along the coast and adjacent interior of KwaZulu-Natal. Heavy downpours leading to localised flooding in formal and informal settlements, low lying areas, bridges and roads are expected, as well as damage to property and infrastructure.

Advisories

Hot and uncomfortable conditions are expected over the north-eastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

Provincial weather forecast

Here’s what to expect in your province on Wednesday, 9 April:

Gauteng:

Residents of Gauteng can expect morning fog in places, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and cool to warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers.

The region’s expected UVB sunburn index is “high”.

Residents should take the necessary precautions against prolonged sun exposure.

Mpumalanga:

Mpumalanga residents will wake up to hot weather in the Lowveld, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers.

Limpopo:

The day will be partly cloudy and warm to hot with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the extreme south-west.

North West:

Morning fog awaits North West residents in the west, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers but scattered in the east.

Free State:

Residents of the Free State will experience morning fog in places, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers, but scattered in the east.

Northern Cape:

The day will be fine in the west and central interior, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in the extreme east. There will be morning fog in places.

Western Cape:

Western Cape residents can expect cloudy and cool weather conditions with isolated showers and rain, except in the north-west, but scattered along the south coast and adjacent interior.

Eastern Cape (western half):

Morning fog awaits Eastern Cape residents in places, otherwise it will be cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers.

Eastern Cape (eastern half):

The day will start with morning fog in places, otherwise it will be cloudy and cool with scattered showers and thundershowers, but isolated in the north-west.

KwaZulu-Natal:

Residents of KwaZulu-Natal can expect morning fog in places over the interior, otherwise it will be partly cloudy and cool to warm, with scattered showers and thundershowers. It will be hot in the north-east.
