Speaking in Parliament during the Phala Phala vote on Tuesday, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema said the Ruperts and Oppenheimers made President Ramaphosa feel “untouchable”.

He said they had warned Ramaphosa that “white monopoly capital” would toss him aside.

Julius Malema in Parliament

Malema said the EFF was “deeply disappointed in Ramaphosa – an individual who has been celebrated as one of the architects of the Constitution”.

This as parliament will vote today on whether the president should face an impeachment committee following allegations related to the Phala Phala investigation.

‘Criminal underworld activities’

Malema said Ramaphosa’s reluctance to “allow inquiry into the activities at Phala Phala Farm are shocking and concerning”.

Moreover, Malema said Ramaphosa was linked to “criminal underworld activities” such as money laundering and “making money on the side”.

He said Ramaphosa was “stuffing his mattresses and couches with Dollars”, and asked if the president of South Africa is a spy.

He said Ramaphosa’s actions throughout the investigation were a “spit in the face of the freedoms and institutions so many fought and died for”.

Malema claimed the president was trying to cover up “even worse transgressions”, and instead of using the impeachment process to clear his name, Ramaphosa chose to mobilise the ANC.

He added: “Mr President, you stand accused of theft from the people of South Africa, you stand accused of violating your oath of office and of violating our Constitution”.

Influenced by ‘Ruperts, Oppenheimers’

Malema said he reminded Ramaphosa years ago that it was not wise to surround himself with yes -men and women who only act in the “interest of their own stomachs”.

“I warned you that you should not allow factionalism to dictate the decisions you take when it comes to South Africa,” Malema added.

Moreover, he told Ramaphosa that the “Ruperts and Oppenheimers will not defend” the president for acting on their behalf.

“Ruperts and the Oppenheimer made you feel like you are untouchable, today we are touching you because we are not in the pockets of your faction or your handlers.”

Ramaphosa ‘an enemy of the Constitution’

The EFF leader said this culminated with Ramaphosa now taking his “very own Parliament to court”, because he allowed white monopoly capital and factions within the ANC to influence him, instead of relying on his integrity and conscience.

He concluded: “Mr Cyril Ramaphosa we declare without fear of contradiction, that you are an enemy of the Constitution of South Africa”.

“Mr President, you should be ashamed, that you have become the enemy of what so long defined your legacy.”
