Youth Games: Delta Maintains Lead With 28 Gold Medals At Day-2

Team Delta maintained its leadership on the medals table at the ongoing sixth edition of the National Youth Games taking place in Ilorin Kwara State after garnering fifteen gold medals on day two to bring its tally to 28 gold medals.

The defending champions claimed a total of seven gold medals in the swimming event, while claiming gold in Darts and two gold medals in weightlifting today to maintain its unassailable lead.

Speaking after the swimming events the Executive Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Chief Tonobok Okowa commended the Team Delta Athletes for their commitment and doggedness asserting that despite the intense competition faced they have remained unshaken in their resolve to return as champions.

He assured them that Deltans were solidly behind them especially Governor Ifeanyi Okowa who has continued to ask about their welfare and performances at the games.

The President of the Nigeria Acquatic Federation, Chief Chinonye Dafe-Aliyu described the performances of the various states as commendable stressing that it was clear Nigeria could become a force in world swimming in future.

She assured athletes of a better environment as the Acquatic Federation during her tenure will explore avenues to put Nigeria on the international swimming map.
