Yvonne Chaka Chaka marks her 60th birthday

Music legend Yvonne Chaka Chaka is celebrating her 60th birthday in a meaningful way—by giving back to the Soweto community that helped shape her journey.

Partnering with Shoprite Sixty60, the iconic singer personally delivered essential food items to elderly residents in need.

“I wanted to honour the people and the place that shaped me by giving back, and it is very fitting to do so in partnership with a brand like Shoprite. They’ve been a part of our community since Soweto’s first mall opened in my neighbourhood of Dobsonville three decades ago,” she shared.

With the help of community leaders, Chaka Chaka returned to her birthplace, ensuring that 100 families received much-needed groceries.

The initiative not only celebrated her milestone birthday but also marked 40 years since she first took the stage in Soweto, cementing her legacy as the “Princess of Africa.”

Shoprite Sixty60, which has been expanding its on-demand grocery delivery service in Soweto, expressed the significance of the partnership.

“Shoprite Sixty60 has joined hands with the legendary Yvonne Chaka Chaka to commemorate her 60th birthday with a delivery of essential food items to elderly residents of Soweto,” the retailer stated.

As Shoprite Sixty60 continues to grow, the service remains committed to affordability while making shopping more convenient for customers.

“Shoprite Sixty60 will remain true to the supermarket’s low-price promise while reimagining the shopping experience,” the company added.
