Anele Mdoda has found herself at the centre of a fresh public controversy after her former helper, Thuleleni Mlalazi, better known as Florence, dragged her to the CCMA and walked away with a R90 000 settlement.

The matter has quickly sparked conversation because Anele has long been seen as one of Mzansi’s most vocal personalities when it comes to fairness, workers’ rights and the treatment of domestic workers. Now, the popular radio host and media figure is facing difficult questions after a private employment dispute became public.

Former Helper Takes Anele Mdoda to the CCMA

According to Daily Sun, the dispute between Anele and Florence was settled at the CCMA on 6 August 2025, with Anele agreeing to pay her former employee R90 000.

The settlement reportedly included an initial payment of R20 000, with the remaining R70 000 being paid in monthly instalments of R2 000 until the full amount is settled.

The agreement was said to cover the dispute between the two parties, including issues connected to a motor vehicle, as well as other disputes that had arisen between them.

Vehicle Ownership Dispute at the Centre of the Fallout

One of the biggest parts of the story involves a vehicle Florence allegedly used while working for Anele’s family.

Florence reportedly claimed that when she first started working, she had her own car. She alleged that she later traded it in and bought an Audi A3, with money allegedly deducted from her salary to help cover vehicle costs.

The dispute became more complicated when Florence claimed that the car was later described publicly as a gift. She further alleged that she was later instructed to trade in the Audi A3 for a Volkswagen Polo, which she claimed was registered under Anele’s name.

According to Florence’s version, the matter became tense when questions were raised around who actually owned the car and who had the right to use it.

Dismissal Claims Add More Drama

Florence also alleged that her dismissal followed a disagreement involving Anele’s husband, Bonelela “Buzza” Mgudlwa.

She claimed that tension started after she failed to fetch the family’s child from a sports match on what she described as her off day. Florence alleged that even though she later went to fetch the child, the disagreement created problems in the household.

She further claimed that Bonelela was the one who eventually dismissed her, despite Anele being the person who had employed her.

These claims have added another layer to the story, especially because the matter involves both employment rights and personal household arrangements.

Anele Responds to the Claims

Anele has strongly disputed Florence’s version of events. In a written response to Daily Sun, Anele reportedly said Florence was dismissed fairly for misconduct. She claimed the dismissal followed a formal process and involved allegations of dishonesty, theft, threats and extortion of other staff members on the payroll.

Anele also made it clear that, in her view, the settlement was not linked to those misconduct claims.

She described Florence’s allegations as inaccurate and said she would not comment further on the confidential agreement. However, she added that she would address the matter on her radio show in due course.

Why This Story Is Getting Attention

The reason this story is gaining traction is not just because of the money involved. It is also because of Anele’s public image.

Anele is one of South Africa’s most recognisable media personalities. She hosts the breakfast show on 947 and has built a successful career across radio, television and production. She is also known for speaking openly on social issues, including how domestic workers should be treated.

That makes this case more sensitive. When someone with a strong public voice around fairness becomes involved in a labour dispute, public interest naturally grows.

A Complicated Public Moment for Anele

This latest controversy also comes at a time when Anele has already been in the headlines for other reasons.

Her husband, Bonelela Mgudlwa, recently faced public attention over a PPE tender matter, with reports saying he has denied wrongdoing and distanced Anele from the issue. That separate controversy had already placed her name in the public conversation, even though he insisted she had no connection to the matter.

Now, the CCMA story has added fresh pressure. For a celebrity who usually controls her own narrative well, this is the kind of story that can quickly become difficult to manage.

Settlement Does Not Mean Admission of Guilt

It is important to note that a settlement does not automatically mean that Anele admitted wrongdoing.

CCMA settlements are often reached to resolve disputes without continuing a lengthy legal fight. In this case, both sides appear to have very different versions of what happened.

Florence says she was treated unfairly and felt betrayed. Anele says the dismissal was fair and based on misconduct. What is confirmed is that a settlement was reached and that Florence is set to receive R90 000.

What Happens Next

Anele has indicated that she plans to address the matter on her radio show.

That could be the moment where she gives her side more fully and responds to the public reaction. Until then, the story remains a mixture of confirmed settlement details, disputed allegations and unanswered questions.

For Florence, the CCMA process appears to have given her some form of relief after the fallout. For Anele, the challenge now is reputational.

A Story That Has Mzansi Talking

This case has struck a nerve because it touches on issues many South Africans understand well: domestic work, employer power, labour rights, trust and money.

It also shows how quickly a private household dispute can become a national celebrity headline when a public figure is involved.

Anele Mdoda remains one of Mzansi’s biggest media names, but this CCMA settlement has opened a new conversation around her image, her household and the people who work behind the scenes.

And until she speaks fully, the questions are not going away.
