Anthony Joshua escapes death on Nigeria road

Global boxing star Anthony Joshua was involved in a serious road accident on Monday along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, in Nigeria.

The crash reportedly occurred on the Ogun State axis of the expressway, near the Sagamu Interchange.

Lagos State Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotosho, confirmed the incident, stating that it happened around the Shagamu Exchange area and that emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene.

“The Lagos State Government has sent an ambulance to the accident scene,” Omotosho said.

Images circulating from the site show Joshua shirtless and visibly shaken but alive, standing amid the wreckage as onlookers gathered around him.

Despite the severity of the crash, the former heavyweight champion is said to have escaped without major injuries.

Confirming the fatalities, Ogun State Police Command spokesperson Oluseyi Babaseyi revealed that two individuals lost their lives in the accident, while Joshua sustained only minor injuries.

“Two people are confirmed dead from the accident, and Joshua only suffered minor injuries,” Babaseyi said, adding that further details would be made public in due course.

Preliminary reports indicate that the crash involved a Lexus SUV, bearing registration number KRD 850 HN, which collided with a stationary truck along the Ibadan-bound lane.

An eyewitness claimed the accident occurred at about 11 a.m., just before the Danco Filling Station in Makun, close to the Sagamu Interchange.

The incident comes just days after Joshua’s high-profile knockout win against Jake Paul in an exhibition heavyweight bout held in Miami.

The boxing icon has reportedly been in Nigeria on a yuletide holiday since the fight.

Just look at the terrible state of Nigeria.
