Amapiano sensation Babalwa M has finally addressed critics following her controversial decision not to perform at the Itsoseng Delicious event on the Day of Goodwill.
The star took to her social media platforms to clarify the situation and set the record straight regarding the circumstances surrounding her withdrawal.
Babalwa M dismissed claims that she pulled out over unreasonable performance riders or alcohol demands, stating that the real issue was the unprofessional and aggressive behaviour of the event promoters on site.
“My decision not to proceed with the performance was not based on performance riders or alcohol demands, as suggested,” she said.
“I have performed at numerous venues with incorrect riders or no riders at all, and I have always chosen professionalism over inconvenience when the engagement is handled respectfully.”
According to the singer, the situation escalated after she was subjected to verbal abuse, including being sworn at and referred to as “crazy” by one of the promoters.
“Under those circumstances it became impossible to continue in a safe, respectful and professional environment,” she added.
Babalwa M also clarified online misconceptions, revealing that she had already agreed to perform at a discounted fee and that the extra bottle of alcohol mentioned in the promoters’ statement had been provided by her DJ’s friend, not the organisers.
She further highlighted a lack of basic hospitality, noting that no water was made available for her or her team.
“As an artist and a professional, I believe that mutual respect is non-negotiable,” she said.
“Just as one would not continue a transaction in a store where they are treated poorly, I could not proceed with a performance after being disrespected.”
The award-winning artist explained that leaving the venue was a necessary step to protect her well-being and that of her team.
She also took the extra step of issuing a full refund to the organisers before departing, emphasizing that her decision was not motivated by entitlement.
“What happened on the 26th was an isolated incident,” she said.
Babalwa M concluded by apologising to fans who attended the event expecting to see her perform.
“I would like to sincerely apologise to my supporters who came out to see me,” she said, adding that the incident underscores the importance of respect, professionalism, and honouring agreements within the entertainment industry.
