Cassper Nyovest’s ‘Kusho Bani’ makes history on Spotify

Cassper Nyovest has silenced his critics with the runaway success of his single Kusho Bani, which has officially become the most-streamed South African hip hop track in the world.

The song, released on 7 February 2025, was initially met with heavy criticism, with some online users calling Mufasa a “has-been” and questioning his cultural relevance.

According to Spotify’s Global Impact List, Kusho Bani has racked up over 5.7 million streams and is one of only two South African hip hop songs featured in the top 30, sitting ahead of Yanga Chief’s What If? (Mngani) at number 27.

Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela confirmed the news on 18 August, posting on X that Cassper’s hit had made the exclusive chart.

The achievement cements Mufasa’s staying power in an era dominated by Amapiano, where DJ Maphorisa leads the way with multiple entries and Tyla controls the top three spots with her global smashes Bliss, Show Me Love with WizTheMc, and Bees & Honey.

Beyond streaming success, Kusho Bani went viral thanks to its dance challenge, with international stars including Serena Williams jumping in on the trend.

The track’s global impact has reignited conversations about Cassper’s influence in South African hip hop, with some fans hailing him as the greatest rapper in the country.

As one fan put it on social media: “You can say what you want about Cass, but the charts don’t lie. He’s still number one.”
