The expected embrace, franzy and comfort Mr Femi Fani-Kayode’s dreamed to enjoy on joining the ruling All Progressive Party (APC) from the the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) may after all not be realistic but a farce.
This follows the swipe taken at him by one of the three PDP Governors, Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State, whom Fani-Kayode claimed to have been instrumental to his defection to the APC on Friday during a Channels Television Sunrise Daily programme.
Umahi presently the Chairman of the South East Governors Forum, when asked to respond to Fani-Kayode’s claim said, “He needs to withdraw that statement; it’s an insult on my person as a Governor and Chairman of the South East Governors Forum.”
Umahi who described Fani-Kayode as a “white liar” wondered how he could have been persuaded by someone (Fani-Kayode) to join APC, pointing out that he did so without the input of a third party.
Gov. Umahi though appreciated his close tie with Fani-kayode, but expressed his anger over the claim adding that he never played any role in his defection to the ruling party.
The Governor added: “Yes, he came to me and congratulated me and he said he would be joining us soon; I joined APC on my own to tow the part of our founding fathers like Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, who took the Eastern Region to the central government. I took my people back to the center on my own and not by any Fani-Kayode”.
It would be recalled that the former Aviation Minister under PDP and Spokesman of PDP Presidential Campaign Council had only on Thursday September 16, jumped ship and has been signing like a Cenery that more PDP top shots are warming up to defect to APC including serving governors.
He spoke to newsmen on Thursday at Presidential Villa, Abuja after he was received by President Muhammadu Buhari.
“If you ask my friend and brother, Governor Matawale here, there are many people within the PDP, who really do want to come over to the APC.
“I can tell you that, I was there and very instrumental when Governor Umahi joined the APC.
“I was there and very instrumental when Governor Ayade did the same thing. I was there and very instrumental when my friend and brother, governor of Zamfara, Governor Matawale did the same thing,”Fani-Kayode claimed.
