DJ Speedsta Foundation Launches Training Course for Aspiring DJs

South African DJ and media personality DJ Speedsta has announced a new development initiative through his foundation aimed at nurturing emerging talent in the local music scene. The programme, titled DJ 101, is an eight-week training course designed to equip aspiring DJs with practical skills and industry knowledge.

The initiative forms part of the broader work of the DJ Speedsta Foundation, which focuses on empowering young creatives and creating access to opportunities within entertainment. This latest programme is presented in collaboration with Soul Candi Institute of Music and supported by Power Play Energy Drink, both of which play a role in music development and youth culture in South Africa.

According to the official announcement shared on Instagram and discussed on the “Up To Speed” podcast, applications for DJ 101 opened on Monday, 13 April 2026 and will close on Monday, 27 April 2026. The opportunity is open to individuals over the age of 18 who are interested in building a career in DJing. Applicants are required to submit a 30-second video introducing themselves and explaining their motivation for pursuing DJing. Submissions must be sent via email to the address provided in the announcement.

Submissions are open from Monday 13 April 2026 – Monday 27 April 2026. 4 Winners will be announced on Monday 4 May 2026 on “Up To Speed” podcast & on social media”

In addition to the core training, the initiative includes a public workshop scheduled for Saturday, 9 May 2026. The session will take place from 1pm to 4pm at Artistry Theatre, located at 22 Fredman Drive in Sandton, Johannesburg. The workshop will feature guest speakers from different areas of the music industry, offering insights into both the technical and business aspects of DJing. Attendance is open to the public, with tickets priced at R100 and limited availability.

The event will conclude with an after-party at the Artistry sound bar, extending the experience beyond the formal workshop setting. This segment is intended to provide a live environment where attendees can observe and engage with DJ culture in practice.
