South African hip-hop artists K.Keed and Orish are preparing to release their new collaborative single “Abenam,” which is scheduled to drop on May 29. The upcoming track arrives as anticipation continues to build around the second installment of their joint project, uMgaranto II, which has already been teased by the artists across social media platforms. While the official release date for the project has not yet been confirmed, both artists have hinted that the tape is expected to arrive soon.
The announcement follows the success of their first collaborative project, uMgaranto, which was officially released on November 24, 2023. The seven-track project introduced listeners to the chemistry between the two artists and featured contributions from names including Bravo Le Roux, Dee Koala and BhutLegend.
The original uMgaranto project included songs such as “Amaxabiso,” “Goduka,” “Ngangelizwe,” “Vula Njan,” “Khalamine,” “Babesithi,” and “Bonkers.” The EP was released under Locked In Entertainment and carried a runtime of just under 18 minutes.
Ahead of the first project’s release in 2023, K.Keed and Orish revealed that the title and concept behind uMgaranto drew inspiration from the classic South African television show Gundi no Mazwi, a programme known for blending entertainment with life lessons. According to the duo, the project was intended to reflect storytelling and relatable experiences while maintaining an energetic hip-hop sound.
“Abenam” first surfaced after K.Keed shared a teaser online confirming the collaboration with Orish and referencing “UMG II soon,” signalling that the sequel to the collaborative tape was already in motion. The teaser also confirmed production credits linked to DO2.
Since the release of the original EP, both artists have remained active within the South African hip-hop space through solo releases and collaborations. Orish later released MA’ORIE 3, while K.Keed continued building momentum with new music and appearances across the local rap scene.
With “Abenam” now confirmed for release on May 29, listeners are expected to get the first official preview of what K.Keed and Orish have prepared for uMgaranto II, as fans await further details surrounding the forthcoming project.
