Makhanj has officially entered an exciting new chapter of her career after confirming the release date for her long-awaited debut album Transkei. The South African singer, songwriter and qualified attorney took to Instagram to unveil the album cover, announce that the project will arrive on 5 August 2026 and acknowledge the creatives, collaborators and supporters who have helped bring the vision to life.

The announcement marks a significant milestone for an artist who has steadily earned recognition for blending Amapiano, Afro House and deeply personal storytelling. Rather than simply revealing a release date, Makhanj used the moment to reflect on where her journey began, making it clear that this project is rooted in identity, home and lived experiences.

Sharing the news with her followers, she wrote, “Every journey has a starting point. Mine began at home, Transkei. On Wednesday, 5 August 2026, I welcome you to my debut album, Transkei. I’m super nervous but incredibly excited. Thank you to every single person that has contributed to this & thank you to my supporters for the patience. We’re officially on the road to Transkei.” The heartfelt message was accompanied by the campaign hashtag #800kilometrestogo, symbolising the road back to her roots while building anticipation for the album’s arrival.

The artwork shared alongside the announcement reinforces the story Makhanj is telling through the project. More than just introducing a new collection of songs, Transkei serves as a tribute to the place that shaped her journey, celebrating heritage while inviting listeners into a deeply personal body of work.

Over the past few years, Makhanj has carved out a distinctive lane within South African music through her rich vocals, honest songwriting and unwavering commitment to embracing her isiXhosa heritage. Alongside her achievements as a musician, she is also a qualified attorney, a balance that reflects the dedication and discipline that have defined her path. With Transkei, she now steps into a new era by presenting her first full length studio album.

The upcoming release will feature 13 tracks, giving fans a broader look into Makhanj’s artistry. Listeners have already been introduced to its emotional direction through Phepha Abanye, the lead single created alongside Atmos Blaq. The song explores themes of self-preservation, emotional healing and choosing peace, offering an early glimpse into the reflective nature of the album.

Makhanj also used her announcement to recognise the people behind the project, crediting creative director Tony Gum, photographer Nondumiso Shange, stylist Wasted Linen, makeup artist Tsoga Ngradebe, graphic designer Phatsimo and co producers NuSkool, Impilo Productions and Location Loaded for helping shape the rollout.

With Transkei now available to pre save on major streaming platforms, the countdown has officially begun. As 5 August draws closer, Makhanj is preparing to share a debut album that not only introduces a new chapter in her career, but also honours the place, people and experiences that continue to inspire her music.
