In a monumental display of dominance and diverse musical prowess, Nkabi Records has emerged as a leading force in the 2025 Metro FM Music Awards nominations. The powerhouse label, founded by Big Zulu, has secured an impressive six nominations across multiple genres, solidifying its reputation as a home for authentic South African storytelling and hit-making.
Leading the charge is the multi-talented Lwah Ndlunkulu, who has proven to be a fan favorite this season. She has garnered three prestigious nominations for his groundbreaking work: Best Produced Album, Best African Pop, and the highly competitive Best Female Artist. The label’s collaborative strength, Inkabi Nation, has been recognized for its unique chemistry and output with a nomination for Best Group/Duo. Label leader Big Zulu continues his reign in the hip-hop sphere with a well-deserved nod for Best Hip Hop. In a significant milestone for the awards and the genre, the Metro FM Awards have introduced a new category this year: Best Maskandi. Making history as one of the first nominees in this category is the label’s own Siya Ntuli.
The Nkabi Records family is buzzing with excitement and gratitude following the announcement.“We are overwhelmed with joy,” commented label founder Big Zulu. “Six nominations as a family. This is not just about me or Lwah or Siya; this is about the Nkabi Nation. It shows that when you keep it real and tell your story, the people will listen. We are grateful to the Metro FM team.

For Lwah Ndlunkulu, the three nominations are a validation of her hard work and artistic vision. “This feels like a dream. To be recognized for Best Produced Album, Best Afro Pop, and Best Female Artist in one go is a huge blessing. I pour my soul into my music, hoping it touches someone, and to have it acknowledged like this by an institution like Metro FM means the world. Thank you to my team and the fans who ride with me.”

However, the moment carried extra weight for Siya Ntuli, whose nomination marks a personal victory and a broader recognition for Maskandi music. His nod in the newly introduced Best Maskandi category places him at the forefront of the genre’s evolution.

“Being nominated in the very first year they introduced this category is something I cannot put into words,” said an emotional Siya Ntuli. “Maskandi is the heartbeat of our people, the music of our ancestors. For Metro FM to create this platform and for me to be recognized in it is a huge responsibility. It means the culture is growing, and we are being seen on a mainstream level. I dedicate this nomination to every maskandi artist who has kept this genre alive and to the fans who keep our stories going.”
The 2025 Metro FM Music Awards promise to be a historic night for Nkabi Records as they look to bring home multiple gold.
