Dr. Tony Philmoore, Director of the Professional Golfers’Association (PGA) of Nigeria has appreciated Nigeria’s communication giant Globacom (Glo) as well other individuals and organisations for their contributions during the N300 million Fund Raising Gala Night which held in Lagos recently.
Dr Philmoore appreciated Glo which was the biggest donor at the event for always associating with PGA of Nigeria and crave its indulgence not rest on its oars in helping to move the sport forward in the country.
“I want to on behalf of PGA Nigeria say a big thank you to Glo for always being there for us whenever we ask for help; Glow has always been with the PGA of Nigeria and I humbly appeal that it should remain there with us in our quest to move the game of professional golf and amateur to the next level, in Nigeria” he appealed.
The Director who also took cognisance of the efforts of other individuals and corporate organisations assured that transparency, accountability and probity will be the watchword while his tenure lasts, saying it is no more business as usual.
“Let me Assure our sponsors and partners that there will be proper accountability and transparency; we will account for every Kobo spent and everyone will be carried along; all our sponsors and partners will adequately be advertised; the media inclusive.
“This Fund Raising is international best practice and that is how associations raise money to run their affairs; organise tournament’s every year. This is the first since the association was established in 1969 as PGAN; it has produced fantastic players who have won at home and abroad; foreigners used to come to Nigeria to play and now we will return those good days again.
“I have told my team that it’s not going to be business as usual; everyone must sit up and let’s do the right thing that will move the association forward ; this time around we’re looking at global standard – it’s beyond local affair,” he said.
The Director concluded by confirming that a calendar has been drawn for tournaments to commence from January to December, 2022 as players would be busy all year round.
