The Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) of Nigeria has finally fixed November 19, 2021 for its Fund Raising Gala Night after series of postponment owing to unavoidable circumstances.
The Gala Night event which is targeted at raising N300 million, will hold at the Federal Palace Hotels & Casino, Victoria Island, Lagos.
In a statement made available to the press on Wednesday signed by Dr. Tony Philmoore, the Director of the, the PGA of Nigeria it revealed the association’s target is well over N300 million to prosecute its ser agenda.
The statement reads in part: “The Association’s target is a N300 million and more; the fund is to enable the Association prosecute THE NIGERIA TOUR tournaments in 2022, with at least, one tournament in a month and a mega event that would attract global participation from the US PGA; European Tour among others in the year 2022.
“This development the PGA of Nigeria believes would enable it attract bigger and better sponsorship/partnership deals even as it promised to make probity, transparency and accountability its watch word from the funds generated; the association also believes that with regular and quality tournaments, its players would also have the opportunity of improving their games and ranking, playing among the bests of the world in golf.
“Furthermore, amateur golf will feature in the Tour and youth will have the attention of the Tour for the development of the game.”
Dr. Philmoore, it would be recalled had told SOKOnnect in an earlier interview there was need to overhaul the Association to comply with global standard.
“It’s time the PGA of Nigeria begins to complete at the international level, with a tour that will attract the best players from all over the world to Nigeria and it would go a long way to boost the economy of the country.
“But, this can only be possible when the fund is available; this is the reason we have to strive to go on find raising to revive the Association,* Dr Philmoore said during the HSDGCC Classic in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital.
However, highlight of the occasion will be the investiture of Nigeria’s former President, by Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as the Grand Patron of the Association as well as the unveiling of the Nigeria Tour logo.
Dignitaries expected at the occasion include the Prof Yemi Osinbajo, Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State; Governors from all other States in the Federation; Elder statesmen; Industrialists, among others.
The Royal Father of the Gala Night is HRM Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi, the Elegushi of Ikateland, Kusenla III.
