Afropop singer Sbahle is making a heartfelt statement with the release of her latest single Some More, a collaboration that brings together two of South Africa’s most celebrated Afro soul voices, Nhlanhla Mafu and Naima Kay.
More than just a collaboration, Some More serves as a meeting of generations, voices and musical legacies within the Afro pop and Afro soul space. The song explores themes of love, longing and commitment through poetic lyricism, warm harmonies and emotionally rich storytelling.
At the heart of the track is the striking lyric: “Dilika dilika wey’ntaba zoKhlamba ngibone uLavo, ngifuna ukumunika uthando.” The romantic line paints a vivid picture of the Drakensberg mountains standing between two lovers. Through the lyric, Sbahle passionately calls for the mountains to fall so she can reach the person she loves and finally offer them the love she carries in her heart.
Inspired by romance and vulnerability, Sbahle says Some More is a genuine reflection of who she is both personally and creatively.
“As a lover girl, I love speaking about love and the song is also an expression of love in a romantic manner,” she shares.
The song gains even more emotional depth through Nhlanhla Mafu’s touching verse: “Ngikhumbula kudala sihamba loluhambo lwethu, bathi mina nawe sizophelela emoyeni,” which translates to, “I remember when our love journey started, people said it would end in thin air.” The lyric speaks to a love that withstands doubt, criticism and outside opinions, a message many listeners are likely to connect with.
Driven by lush melodies and soulful vocal textures, Some More highlights Sbahle’s signature approach to music, one she describes as broad, powerful and intentional.
“With every song, I aim to touch people’s hearts individually,” she explains. “Everything I create is calculated and very intentional.”
The collaboration holds special significance for the singer, who credits both Nhlanhla Mafu and Naima Kay among the artists who influenced her musical journey. She also names Beyoncé and Brenda Mntambo as key inspirations.
“I grew up listening to most of these artists and in some way they have helped me hone my creativity,” she says.
The release of Some More arrives during an exciting chapter in Sbahle’s career as she continues the rollout of her latest project, Iscoco Sami (My Crown), which was released on 15 May. The body of work reflects themes of self-worth, growth and embracing her power as both an artist and a woman.
