South African Amapiano artists Scotts Maphuma and Bob Mabena have officially released their collaborative extended play titled “Gijima.” The joint project arrives as a new addition to the growing catalogue of contemporary Amapiano releases, bringing together the distinctive vocal style of Scotts Maphuma and the presence of Bob Mabena on a single body of work. The EP introduces a collection of tracks rooted in the genre’s rhythmic piano-led sound and collaborative approach.
The project had been teased earlier through social media announcements where the artists revealed that the work had already been completed and prepared for release. At the time of the announcement, anticipation increased among listeners after a ten-track list from the project was shared publicly, providing a preview of the material included in the collaboration.
“Gijima” presents a tracklist that blends Amapiano production with contributions from multiple collaborators within the scene. Among the songs featured on the EP are “Gijima,” “Ta Rose,” each highlighting the project’s mixture of vocal performance and rhythmic instrumentation associated with the genre. The title track “Gijima” features vocalist CowBoii, adding another layer of vocal delivery to the project’s opening record.
Another track on the EP, “Ta Rose,” brings together a broader lineup of collaborators including Mulest Vankay, DJ 787 and Mdeshkayro. The record incorporates layered vocals and Amapiano percussion structures that follow the genre’s characteristic basslines and log drum patterns. The song was released earlier as an audio recording and later circulated across streaming platforms and video channels.
Across the project, Scotts Maphuma continues to expand his presence in Amapiano, where he has appeared on a wide range of collaborative releases with producers and vocalists in recent years. His previous contributions include appearances on several tracks within the broader South African dance music space, establishing his name among frequent collaborators in the genre.
The “Gijima” EP combines elements commonly associated with Amapiano production, including mid-tempo drum programming, piano melodies and bass-driven rhythms. With its lineup of guest appearances and producers, the project reflects the collaborative structure that has become a defining feature of the genre’s modern releases.
