Mzansi star Junior King is dead
South Africans are mourning the sudden death of Dugulth Ferreira, better known as Junior King, who passed away in a tragic collision on the N1 near Verkeerdevlei in the Free State on Thursday morning.
Authorities confirmed that the 28-year-old artist died at the scene after his vehicle was involved in a head-on crash with a light truck at around 07:25 a.m.
Three other people were injured and taken to hospital for treatment.
Junior King, originally from Gqeberha, had built a strong fanbase as a rapper, dancer and TikTok personality.
His high-energy dance videos, creative choreography and comedic skits made him one of the fast-rising entertainers on local social media. In music, he made his mark within Afrikaans hip-hop, often using his platform to highlight cultural identity and the realities faced by marginalised communities.
His latest project, The Revenge Album, was released just days before the accident and had already begun gaining momentum among fans.
While officials confirmed the crash was a head-on impact, the cause is still being investigated.
Some reports circulating online suggested he may have been on his way to pick up his children, but this has not been verified.
Tributes have been pouring in from fellow creators, musicians and supporters across the country.
Influencer and DJ Yuzriq Meyer expressed heartbreak at the loss, describing Junior King as a force of talent and positivity in the industry.
Rapper and TikTok creator Chesrae Megan also honoured him, praising the influence he had on digital culture and the music scene.
Anti-crime organisation FACSA shared condolences with his loved ones, noting the significance of his voice and artistic contribution.
