Late David Sejobe

South Africans have come together in a powerful show of compassion following the tragic death of security officer and cyclist David Sejobe, with more than R540 000 raised in just a week to support his grieving family.

Sejobe, 49, who worked as a front-of-house security guard at MultiChoice’s Randburg offices, died last week after he was struck by a vehicle while cycling to work.

Police are investigating the incident as a suspected hit-and-run.

News of his death sparked widespread sorrow, particularly among commuters and colleagues who had grown accustomed to his warm greetings and ever-present smile.

A BackaBuddy campaign launched shortly after his passing quickly gained momentum, far exceeding its modest R20 000 goal.

Donations poured in from across the country, ranging from small contributions to substantial gifts, reflecting how deeply Sejobe’s kindness resonated beyond his workplace.

The funds are set to assist with funeral arrangements and provide much-needed support for his widow and children during a difficult transition.

Sejobe was laid to rest yesterday in his home village of Ha-Mashamba, Mukondeni in Limpopo, where hundreds of mourners gathered to celebrate his life and bid farewell.

Friends, family members and colleagues described him as a generous and gentle soul whose presence brightened the lives of many.

His family has since expressed heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support, saying the love and generosity shown by South Africans have brought them comfort and strength as they navigate their loss
