South African rapper K.O has built a career marked by persistence and consistent musical output. Across more than a decade, several of his important releases and milestones have been tied to the month of March, reflecting different stages of his evolution from group member to one of the country’s most recognized hip-hop figures.

In 2009, K.O was still part of the hip-hop trio Teargas alongside Ma-E and Ntukza. Around that period the group was promoting its third studio album, Dark or Blue, released in 2009. The project became one of the defining releases of the group’s catalogue and achieved gold certification in South Africa, strengthening Teargas’ position in the local rap scene.

The early 2010s continued to shape K.O’s trajectory as Teargas remained active while the rapper expanded his presence in the industry. By 2012, the group released Num8er Num8er, their fourth studio album, further solidifying the group’s legacy before eventually disbanding later that year. The period between 2009 and 2012 represented K.O’s foundation years, during which he established his lyrical style and visibility within South African hip-hop.

A turning point arrived in March 2014 with the release of the single “Caracara.” The track, which featured Kid X, was released on 3 March and became one of the most influential songs of K.O’s solo career. The song blended hip-hop with kwaito elements, helping popularise the “Skhanda” sound and introducing audiences to a new direction in his music. The track also became the first South African music video to surpass one million views on YouTube, marking a major milestone in the country’s digital music era.

Following the momentum of Skhanda Republic, K.O continued releasing music connected to that era. Songs such as “One Time” remained part of the rollout of singles from the project during the following years, reinforcing the album’s impact on radio and music television.

Years later, March once again became a significant period in K.O’s catalogue. In March 2019 he released “Supa Dupa,” the lead single for his third studio album PTY UnLTD. The song went on to achieve gold certification in South Africa and marked the beginning of a new phase in his career as an independent creative force.

Another notable March moment arrived in 2022 when K.O released “Emoyeni” on 25 March as part of the rollout for his album SR3. The project would later produce the chart-topping single “SETE,” which debuted at number one and achieved multi-platinum status in South Africa.

From the Teargas years to his solo dominance, K.O’s catalogue shows a long trajectory of growth. His career spans group success, genre-shaping singles, and chart-topping hits, illustrating how the rapper’s journey has continued to evolve over time.
