The 2021 first ever Abakaliki Ladies Open Golf Championship may have come and gone, but the memories linger on as Sigma Pensions Limited in the Ebonyi State capital is still relishing being part of the epoch event as sponsors.
Sigma Pensions no doubt, is one of the current credible pension managers in Nigeria and was conspicuous among other sponsors during the Abakaliki Ladies Open Golf Championship and its Relationship Manager, Edwin Urom-Oti, told SOKOnnect the organistion would always be willing to be part sporting events particularly golf in the state.
Urom-Oti dwelling retrospectively on the Open Championship recently believes sports as golf, is a veritable avenue for social re-engeneering and mobilisation to curb societal ills, hence the organistion was quick to respond to the request of Enene Fonne, the Lady Captain of the Club for the sponsorship of the Ladies Open.
He maintained also that the efforts of the Lady Captain, Fonne, to have secured a rich faculty of sponsors of which Sigma is one, the success has proved skeptics wrong that something good could hardly happen in Abakaliki;
He added that Sigma Pensions as an organistion that affects lives positively, it was only natural for it to take advantage of an opportunity of giving back to the people – an aspect of its social responsibilities.
“Sigma Pensions believes in giving back to the people, the society that it has benefited from – it’s one of our social responsibilities – and this is a sporting event that helps to bring people from all climes together; it creates peace and unity among the people; it also take away the youths from the streets and creating employment, name it, the advantages are much,
“That is one of the major reasons that when the Lady Captain, Enene Fonne, approached the organistion for sponsorship there was no wasting time to accept to accept her request and she’s also a very hard-working person to relate with; just imagine the response from other sponsors and the participation of golfers; it takes someone with good human relations to achieve this feat.
“However, Sigma Pensions also felt honoured to sponsor because the event has changed the narrative by some school of thoughts that Abakaliki is a place where something good cannot happen; but here we have people from other states of Nigeria gathered in Abakaliki to play golf; we want more of the tournaments; I say kudos to the Lady Captain; I’m so happy it’s happening in my time.
“Lastly, I want to use this opportunity to say that Sigma Pensions will always be willing to sponsor golf in particular because of the health benefits and will be ready to answer the calls of Abakaliki Golf Club, the Ladies Section in particular, because we want our ladies to benefit from the joy that golf game brings, thank you,” the Relationship Manager concluded.
